Why use the services of a translator?

To avoid this:
This official sign was photographed in 2011, at Cathedral Cove, in the Coromandel region of New Zealand.
Whether in German, French, Spanish or Portuguese, the 'translated' caution message makes no sense. How could the New Zealand Department of Conservation come up with  such nonsensical translation remains a mystery...If you ever visit this spot please let me know if the sign is still up!
